On the First Friday of Thai )Thai matham) Every year,a girl of this village is married off to a frog that is fished our from temple tank.
8 years old R.Vigneswari was married to frog on friday.At the Wedding ,the residents adopted all the rituals thats are followed during the normal wedding.The people residing at western side of muthu mariamman temple were considered as relatives of frog.
after the relative get the permision from bride side they will caught the frog from the tank.Amidst chanting of devotional hymns and beating drums,temple prist,on behalf of the amhibian,tied nuptial knot to vigneswari in pandal set up at naer a school.Residents greeted the newly married couple and offered moi(cash) to them.dinner was served to all the invitees.After pujas the frog was released .They belive that performing such marriges will protect them from evil .This people conducting such marriges for many centuries .
According to legend ,the people there had suffered from various hardship and large number of children died of sickness.when they offered pray to marriyamman the goddess appeared in their dream and suggested them to conduct "divine marrige"every year.
they believe the marrige conducted between Lord Shiva,who would be reincarnation as frog and live in the temple tank.
